There are only a few things that I want from a stay at a hotel: I want to be able to sleep, use bathroom facilities and eat breakfast. At Townhouse Hotel, I found that neither of this worked.
Sleeping was difficult simply because our room faced the street and (despite being on the second floor) there was a lot of noise. Well, being situated along a large road, that's not too surprising (and it was really our own fault for not realising it would be like that) but might be worth considering if you're noise-sensitive.
The second morning that we stayed at Townhouse Hotel I got in the shower in the morning, turned on the water and had time to get soaked before the shower turned itself off and wouldn't turn on again. Upon hearing what had happened, the receptionist immediately went up to the room to try and help. He managed to get the shower started again and so I attempted to wash my hair, only to end up standing for a few minutes with my hair full of schampoo in a shower refusing to work. The shower continuously turned itself off that morning and during both of our days at the Townhouse Hotel, it was difficult to flush the toilet more than once within an hour. There seemed to be pressure issues at the top floor causing this, which I'm sure the management know as it was a continuous problem.
Then, to the breakfast. 1) the tables were sticky due to not being wiped properly 2) the butter was practically liquid as it was so melted 3) the chef, wearing a very stained uniform, saw an apple that had fallen to the floor and put it back on the fruit plate without washing it 4) the staff cleaned off tables while guests were still at them and were running (yes, literally running) around setting the tables for the next morning even though breakfast time was not yet over 5) left-over milk from tables was poured (by the chef) into the milk container at the table with coffee, cereal etc, despite having been out of the fridge for quite a while. 6) The breakfast was in a dark basement.
Furthermore, the carpet was stained both in the room and in the hallways and there were bags of laundry lying about both on groundfloor and all of the landings on the way to our room. This did not seem to be temporary either as the bags remained for all three days we stayed at the hotel. An atmosphere was basically non-existant.
On the positive side, the Townhouse Hotel has spacious rooms, large windows and comfortable beds. It also has a convenient location if you want to visit both the university area and downtown Glasgow. In my opinion however, the negative sides far outweigh these benefits.
Location
Glasgow is a great city to visit. The university area (Hillhead) is nice to walk around in, and there are several nice bars too. Kelvingrove Art Gallery as well as other museums provide more cultural options and there are also distilleries to visit outside the city. Downtown Glasgow is great to stroll, especially Sauchiehall Street and Buchanan Street, and there are great possibilities to shop. There aren't as many typical touristy sights in Glasgow as at some other places in Scotland (such as Edinburgh), but Glasgow's definitely worth a visit, if nothing else then just because of the great atmosphere. People are generally very friendly and easy to strike up a conversation with and it's a very welcoming place, despite its size. Also, walking around in town you find that the pace is not the pace of most larger places, it's not as stressful and people just look somewhat happier than in your average European city.

The rooms are kept clean & tidy. The staff are very helpful with any enquires you may have. Good value for money that's why we have visited for the last 2 years.
Location
Close to railway station incase you want to visit other locations such as Edinburgh. Also close to central Glasgow for food and entertainment.

The room was cold and draughty and very noisy ....having Sauchiehall street outside did not help....windows need at least secondary D/glazing. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was excellent .....felt the public areas could have done with a hoovering.
Location
Close to town...easy access by bus....close to Secc...walking distance......close to Kelvingrove...walking distance

The accomodation was a little tatty (curtains coming off the rail), the soap and shower gel dispensers had both run out in the bathroom, and the hairdryer supplied didn't work (perhaps due to the £3.95 price tag on the box). However, it was very warm and the shower was nice and powerful, and breakfast was efficiently served and good, although the orange juice tasted as if it had been watered down on our second day!
Location
The hotel was in an excellent location for our needs - we were attending a wedding within 5 minutes walk, which was our chief reason for choosing the hotel. We were pleasantly surprised to find hte Kelvingrove park and musuem within 5 minutes, and the town centre and riverside to be within 20 minutes walk too making these easily accessible too. We enjoyed the tour of the Glasgow School of Art and the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, all we had time for in our short stay!

The fellow on Reception barely made eye contact on booking in and was singularly unhelpful regarding any information about our stay. The breakfast was the worst we had in Scotland and the heating in the room and the rest of the hotel was below standard and we were very cold during one of the coldest spells that had been at this time of year. The next fellow did not even say good bye as we checked out. Very disappointing for the price.

We did not have WI-FI at the Townhouse but other than that the accommodations were great. We never could locate a closeby laundromat either.
Location
It's proximity to the Mitchell Library - our first destination - and other places to eat and visit was ideal.
