We stayed in the bungalow, attached to the B&B. The location was good and very quiet, with exceptional views across Ben Nevis. It was a few minutes walk to the Calendonian canal and river. The bungalow was large and well equipped (except for towels that we asked for). The decor in the bedrooms was slightly dated, but it was clean and spacious overall. The owners next door were very friendly and welcoming. Their dog even came on our family walks.

Location

Calendonian canal a few minutes walk. And you could walk down to Neptune's Staircase in 40 minutes or so. The location was a short drive from Fort William - which is not a pretty town, but had magnificent views of the mountains and lochs. The Jubilee Line steam railway runs from Fort William to Mallaig on the coast, running over the Glenfinnan viaduct (as seen in Harry Potter films). The views are amazing. Mallaig is a fishing port, with a few shops - we took the circular walk from the East Car Park up over the hill and back round to the village, taking in spectacular views of Skye. It took around an hour. Loch Ness was only 45-1hr away up A82. The Loch Ness Exhibition is worth a visit - with around 6 short 'experiences' of the Loch in films/sets. The gift shop was impressive too! We got a joint family ticket for the Exhibition and Urqhart Castle for £25 which saved us quite a lot on admissions. The Castle had an excellent introductory film, and was interesting to explore afterwards. Glen Coe offered outstanding scenery on our drive back to Edinburgh - around 3 hours. We stopped en route at Callendar and went to a Loch Side Cafe (signposted off main road - 3 miles) which had a huge deck on the Loch, and served good food. This was much better than the pub (on the main road just outside Callendar which served Lade beer) where we stopped on the way.

Superb location on the Caledonian Canal. Furnishings functional though not particularly attractive (e.g. curtains). Poor TV reception (could probably be fixed with a booster at very little cost). Towels provided only on request. No bin-liners, washing-up liquid and only one dish-washer tablet and one tea-towel. These should be included in the rent (in my opinion).

Location

We had superb weather all week so were able to climb Ben Nevis, visit the island of Rum, cycle the length of the canal, take train to Corrour Station (on Rannoch Moor) for another superb hill-walk etc. Excellent location for so many outdoor pursuits.
