Visitor Reviews of Sandhill House - Overall Rating 4.6

I only stayed at Sandhill House for one night, and had I known earlier, would have much preferred it to my stay at the supposedly four star Piersland Hotel nearby. The personal attention shown by Elaine, the owner, far exceeded the somewhat impersonal interaction at the hotel. My room was spacious and although the house is an older structure, it has been well-maintained and was clean and ordered. My only negatives were that the internet was inconsistent, but that was something I experienced throughout my visit to Scotland, in numerous settings; and, as I was afoot, the Sandhill House was quite a distance from the town center and its shopping and restaurants, about three miles. Persons having a car would have no problem with the location. I also liked the fact that after a short walk, I could cross over the railroad and stroll on the Portland Golf Course, quite a pleasant evening activity. I enjoyed the "farm setting", complete with horses, llamas, alpacas, and some strange-looking chickens, as well as the option of a walk through the nearby wooded area. The room rate was about half of the hotel's, and I feel I received a better accommodation at Sandhill House. The breakfast offering provided for every taste, from eggs and Ayrshire bacon to porridge, haggis, and other local dishes. I shall certainly try to stay at Sandhill House on any subsequent trips to the Troon area, and I strongly recommend it over the more well-known Piersland Hotel.

Location

My interest was in the Royal Troon Golf Facility, and I visited that site under the sponsorhip of a local resident and his close friend, a club member. We enjoyed lunch, a visit to the practice range and a closeup look at the famous "Postage Stamp" signature hole. I had decent evening meals at Fullarton's, in town, at modest prices. I hope to visit museums and other local attractions on any subsequent visit.

Lovely location, with views of the the Troon golf course. Very friendly welcome. A grand house with a history, many rooms beautifully restored (some to be done). Would choose Sandhills rather than a budget hotel every time.

Accomadation was impecable. eveything needed and more was supplied. all items were in as new condition with no signs of wear. the staff are amazingly helpfull and deffinately make you feel more like family than a paying guest. food is good quality and is served promtly with a large range of sitting times. dining is special in the ambience of the large room with an open fire at the time i visited. tables impeccable with table clothes and quality tableware. prices were good concidering the size of rooms and there quailty. a deffinate must stay place even if one had no other reason to visit the area.

Location

location is near to yacht haven, scotts restaurant, golf courses and ferrie but its also in substantial grounds and has a feel of isolation but with style and elegance of a small stately home.
