Didn't think it was quite 3star but clean, comfortable. Pity there isn't a small coffee shop/light meals on the premises - breakfast was pleasant and sufficient. No lift, stairs meant logging luggage up, struggling through fire doors. reception staff friendly & helpful.
Location
Edinburgh is a fantastic city, easy accessible from the hotel, we used the hotel parking for our hired car & also caught the frequent bus service from outside the hotel to visit the very busy city.

more like a hostel than an hotel. grimy rooms, frayed curtains. not cleaned properly, rock hard towels, no food available, no bar.breakfast was appalling. we had to hunt round other peoples debris to find clean crockery and cutlery.the terrace was disgusting, faded dirty plastic chairs in a heap in a corner.the manager was arrogant, he knew we couldn't go anywhere else because of the festival. all in all terrible.

quite noisy and rather far from the city centre. But warm welcome and rather good breakfast (no hot chocolate for the kids)

The Hotel and room was clean. However, the breakfast could have been a British one for the price charged
Location
Location was good. For walking to the city center it was a bit too far. But busses were going to the city center every 5 minutes.

Room was comfortable, and we appreciated the tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast was excellent. The car park was very useful. The leaflets giving local information, and the list of relevant buses and taxis was very helpful.
Location
Easy to find from the Bypass, and clearly visible from the bus.

Value for money and friendly helpful reception staff
Location
We didnt visit any place of interest as we were just having a night away, but found a pub on the Royal Mile that was very enjoyable with a singer who kept us all entertained

The Northumberland had changed hands the week before our arrival, and the previous proprietors had unfortunately not been very organised with the room bookings ! However this was swiftly resolved by the new manager, and my father and I had a very pleasant two nights stay. The rooms were clean and tidy and the hotel itself is in a really nice setting. It's also very convenient for getting into the centre of Edinburgh, being on a direct bus route. Special mention to the manager William, and to his colleague Lynne who were both excellent hosts and were also very kind and thoughtful - I was unwell at the time and they went to a lot of effort to look after us, even to the extent of going out to get food for us on the night we arrived, despite the fact that the restaurant was not open that evening ! The breakfasts were also fantastic (I was very pleased to get my appetite back !!) I would highly recommend the Northumberland, and I think under the new management it is going to become a really premium hotel and restaurant. I would definitely stay there again.

Good location - nice area and very convenient for getting to City as on main bus route with frequent service on Lothian buses. Alternatively, a short taxi ride. What can I say about Edinburgh.. well it's my home city so of course I love all of it ! We were there for a family wedding, and the Festival was also on, so it was just a great place to be that weekend !
