Good tasty breakfasts (hot and cold), very comfortable beds and super helpful and friendly staff, who gave us advice on travel around the area, offered to help call for a taxi and solve some practical issues when we checked out etc. The shower was a bit weak but worked okay and water was warm. Bathroom very nice and clean; shampoo and towels were provided. There was of course a kettle and tea in the room. Ownership changed a few years ago (Lillian Cottage is now run by the same people that run Alba Guesthouse next door), and while not as absolutely fantastic as before (the old owners had a larger choice for cooked breakfast and had the place somewhat more nicely decorated - in addition to everything being charmingly sweet, with frilly flowery pillowcases and whatnot) it's still a good B&B I'd recommend, particularly if you want to be close to Old Aberdeen and the University. It's easy to find, as you just need to walk up King Street until you see it.

Location

Try the CUP café on Little Belmont Street in the city centre - their "luxury afternoon tea" is somewhat expensive but to die for, and their tea menu is impressive. Wetherspoons pub The Archibald Simpson at the corner of King St and Union St is one of the friendliest pubs in town, with a few different seating areas depending on whether you like more peace and quiet, a bit more privacy, the more social space close to the bar, etc. I'd avoid the Maritime Museum (near the harbour) unless you're already interested in fishing, ships in general or the oil industry, as it's not that much fun otherwise. Of course no visit to the North-East is complete without a deep-fried Mars bar at the Carron fish shop in Stonehaven. :)

The accommodation was well situated for my activities in Aberdeen. The owner was helpful and pleasant. You could request exactly what you wanted for breakfast and it was cooked there and then. The house was clean tidy and welcoming.

Location

My activities were centred at the beach so I recommend activities at the Beach Ballroom,Gym and restaurants along the front.Aberdeen also theatres .museums and art galleries.

On our arrival at Lillian Guest House there was initially nobody responding to the doorbell. The owner of Alba Guest House next door openened the adjacent door. He told us that he did not hold a reservation for us. Luckily I could present the confirmation of scotarc.org, and he offered us a room in Alba Guest House (obviously under the same management). Our room was quite basic but okay. Daily room service was inconstant. The beds were not made up during our 3-days stay but towels changed and waste bin emptied. The breakfast we can not assess as it was only served from 7 to 9, too early for us.

Room acceptable for the price, breakfast good, friendly service but failed sometimes to foresee potential problems, like not warning us that bus drivers accept only the exact fare even knowing we were about to catch a bus. Or knowing we were soaked with few clothes and asking if we had an umbrella, whereupon we hopefully said "no" and the answer was only "ooooh". So why ask the question? Those slightly irksome failings apart, the stay was very comfortable.

Location

The beach walk down to Black Dog is stunning and you can get there in half an hour walking from the hotel
