We loved our stay . Mary makes a wonderful breakfast and is a wealth of information as to places to visit and good places to eat at. The bedrooms have an incredable view of the sea.

Location

We had a car and I think it really helps in regards visiting the Island. We loved the castle and all of the different trails to walk on . There are also some spectacular water falls very near to Mary's bed breakfast place.

Mary has thought of everything including a bottle opener and hot water bottle! Very comfortable relaxed stay, wish it could have been longer. Would just like to make one point - access to the house is via steps, quite steep and there are a couple of steps of stairs to negotiate in the house itself so could be a problem for anyone with mobility problems. However, we haven't a good knee between us and we managed ok!

Location

Mary has all the local info you could ever need incl. nearby restaurants - Eden Lodge was very good - and Glenashdale Falls a superb if quite demanding walk.

My husband and adult son and I visited Ellengowan in May and found a delightful host, Mary, and a charming place to stay. Beautiful views from bedroom windows and a lovely garden to have our pre dinner drinks. Mary cooks up a storm for breakfast and is full of helpful information on places to go as well as just having a chat about things in general. Highly recommended. Great Value

Location

Walk up the mountain in the middle of the island, great views.

Warm, relaxed and friendly stay: things like bikes in garage, wetsuits/wet coats to dry etc no problem. Mary's attention to detail is outstanding: fresh fruit salads at (an excellent) breakfast, tea and cake (home-made)on arrival, etc; but it is her welcoming personality that really makes the place. House, too, is beautifully decorated, in a clean unfussy style, and has glorious sea views. Only drawbacks were the lack of ensuite and the steep approach; but these were more than offset by the positives and we would definitely recommend. Excellent value for money. also.

Location

Lovely quiet roads for cycling: the tour round the north of the island especially recommended, for those feeling fit. Endless choice of walks, with ever-changing light that makes photography/painting so interesting. Machrie Golf Club tearoom an unexpected value-for money/quality treat, especially for veggie food.

Location

Arran is a very beautiful island and fortunately for us the weather was excellent the whole time we were there.
