The Castleview Guest House was a very nice B&B. It was easy to get to almost everywhere by foot. The people that worked there where outstanding. Very helpful, & friendly. Breakfast, very nice, a good start for the day. I must advise working up your stamina on the stairmaster. They are on the 3rd floor. Lots of stairs. I was in the room called the Thistle. It was clean and very comfortable.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, though ours didn't have a view of the castle (as the name would suggest) but it wasn't a problem as we spent very little time in the room and we had a lovely view of the castle whilst eating breakfast if you sit in the bay window. There are 70 stairs leading to this guest house and although it wasn't a problem for us as we are relatively fit, it would not suit someone who was unfit or had mobility problems as there was no lift, however, the website clearly stated this so we were aware before we travelled. The menu on the website said that Haggis was included on the full scottish breakfast, however, they have either taken it off or it was never on their menu in the first place - which was a major disappointment to my husband as it was one of his criteria when chosing accommodation! Overall, we had a lovely stay here and the staff were very welcoming but not intrusively so.

The Auld Reekie ghost tours are a must but not for the faint hearted. The whisky tour round the visitor centre near the castle is also good value for money and excellent, they give you information on how to taste whisky and take you on a tour which lasts about 40minutes and you get a souvenir taster glass to keep in a box with tasting notes. If you go before 12noon it's cheaper if you print a ticket out from their website. Try the Whiski Inn if you are a whisky lover, they have over 220 different types of whisky for you to sample (we went before the whisky tour and again after to try our new skills as whisky experts). The Mussell Inn has excellent seafood and is well worth a visit, though you do need to book as it gets very busy. The Gourmet Burger Kitchen is also excellent and their Homeslaw was the best I've ever tasted. We couldn't find a butchers shop to bring back some authentic haggis for home (though they sell it in tins everywhere) but maybe we were looking in the wrong places.

Lovely, clean, spacious, comfortable and quite room with a fantastic view of the castle and all the comings and goings of the people below. Friendly staff serving a good breakfast. As all good travels do, travel light as the you will not want to lift a heavy case(s) up the stairs!

Location

Brilliant central location amidst the chic shops and fabulous restaurants in a friendly city with lots to see and do for all tastes - London without the hustle and bustle! Really enjoyed the talking part in the Moon Walk in aid of breast cancer and visiting the Graduates exhibiton at the Art School.

The most beautiful room of our entire month in Scotland! Looking over Castle St. and the Castle was great. Staff and food wonderful. The stairs were a bit much the first day or two but the room and view was worth the climb.
