room was a converted attic, which had a reasonable bed, but the atmosphere of an empty hostel. After showing us our room, our hosts disappeared into their house and we had to knock and ring several times to get any response. In the morning, we only exchanged a few words, none beyond 'coffee or tea?'. It wasn't a disaster, but definitely did not live up to the Scottish hospitality and facilities I have come to expect.
Location
Staffin is one of the most beautiful places on Skye, driving north from Staffin towards Uig was amazing. However, there were no tourist facilities, and not even anywhere to go for food or drink (or anything else) after we arrived at 3pm. We ended up driving the 16 miles to Portree in the dark to find a restaurant that was open. Next time I plan to stay at the Duntulm castle hotel overlooking the water and the ancestral home of the MacDonald clan - it's a bigger facility with amazing views and something to do after 3pm.
