We had a very spacious room with en-suite facilities. The location was excellent close to the centre of Port Ellen. We thought the room decor would benefit from being updated. Joy was an excellent host and very knowledgable of whats going on on the Island. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice.
Location
Worth noting that the only place open for an evening meal was the White Hart Hotel. Food was good and reasonably priced and the barman Ian is a font of knowledge for Malt Whisky lovers !!

Joy is a great host. She cares a lot about you and has a helping hand for everthing you need. Good and big breakfast.

The tours at the destilleries were all perfect. Just Bowmore was a little bit "to professional" for me.

The Askernish B and B has really nice, clean rooms, the breakfast is excellent. The house is funrished and decorated with love and Joy, the propriator, is a truelly nice person who makes you feel welcome and at home at once. She has good advice for your stay, as where to dine, and she would not hesitate to organize for example a tour at a destillary for you. You really could not expect more care and hospitality than you get at the Askernish.

We travelled to Islay to visit the destillaries. If you are interessted in Whiskey, that´s the right place to go. We did a tour at Laphroaig and Bruchladdich and both are recommendable. We were lucky and happened to be on Islay while the obviously famous Jazz Festval took place. We only saw one gig but we really liked it.
Of course Islay is a good place for hiking, too. You can see deer, birds of prey, such as hen harrieres, and seals. I think if you seriously want to be hiking you´d better buy an according map, because trails aren´t signposted.
