Originally known as the Village of the Water of Leith, the Dean Village grew around a milling community and many of the former mills on the banks of the Water of Leith have been converted to residential apartments. Dene or Dean means a deep valley and the area is very picturesque with walkways along the Water of Leith to other areas of town.
